A Prophetic Word: Cracked Cisterns

During the Covid-19 pandemic, when I was preparing for bed one evening, I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to read my paper Bible. So I opened my Bible, and without any searching on my part, it landed all by itself in the place God wanted me to read. The book of Jeremiah chapter 2. These are the verses that the Holy Spirit highlighted to me.

Jeremiah 2:11-13

Has any nation ever traded its gods for new ones,

even though they are not gods at all?

Yet my people have exchanged their glorious God[c]

for worthless idols!

12 The heavens are shocked at such a thing

  and shrink back in horror and dismay,”

says the LORD.

13 “For my people have done two evil things:

They have abandoned me—

the fountain of living water.

And they have dug for themselves cracked cisterns

  that can hold no water at all!

Here’s what the Holy Spirit impressed upon me after reading these verses. While we all agree that God is using the current shaking (COVID) in our nation to get “America’s” attention and that “America” needs to repent for abandoning God, the church has unconsciously excluded itself from the needed acts of repenting and returning.

The unconscious mentality has been “It’s them, not me.” That's correct...it is them, but it’s also you and the American church. We must all ask, “What worthless idols have I exchanged for the glorious God and in what ways have I abandoned Him?” “What area of my life am I relying on my own strength and knowledge to bring results and satisfaction?” "What idols is the church relying upon?"

This is a season of exposure BUT it is not just the exposure of the government and the wolves outside of the fold of Jesus. The hearts of the sheep are also being exposed. If you've abandoned the glorious God in search of building your own kingdom--digging your own cracked cistern that can hold no water, it’s time to come back to Him.

Repent on behalf of America and repent for yourself too! Return to the fountain of Living Water because He loves you with an everlasting love and He is waiting for you to return to Him with your WHOLE heart. He is the only One who can satisfy your thirst. Come back to the Lover of your soul.

Update: In 2024, the Lord reminded me of this text in Jeremiah a second time, but this time He highlighted verses 14-17:

“Why has Israel become a slave?

Why has he been carried away as plunder?

15 Strong lions have roared against him,

    and the land has been destroyed.

The towns are now in ruins,

    and no one lives in them anymore.

16 Egyptians, marching from their cities of Memphis[d] and Tahpanhes,

    have destroyed Israel’s glory and power.

17 And you have brought this upon yourselves

    by rebelling against the Lord your God,

    even though he was leading you on the way!

Unlike verses 11-13, these verses speak about the judgment or consequences of Israel turning away from God and turning to idols instead. The immediate impression in my spirit was the same as it was in September of 2020 - Israel represents America.

Brothers and sisters, don't panic. Pray and seek the Lord. Ask the Lord to remove the scales from your eyes to see the true condition of your heart and the condition of the American church. Repent. Reset your heart on Him and seek His guidance on how to prepare for the days to come.
